This new series from the Marytykwawara family and the Awaete people is Ure Mapawi Jeyga - Narrativas de fortalecimento no genocidio, a história que a história não contou (Strengthening the Narratives of the Genocide, The Story that History Did Not Tell.)
In this series, young people from the community will listen, document and record experiences of resistance by the elders against the genocide experienced by the ethnic group during the contact in the ‘70s that caused our people to become just 52 individuals. These stories have been told in a distorted way by anthropologists and academia.
But these stories are full of spiritual, emotional and medicinal knowledge, still present in the memory of the elders who lived during the contact and their wisdom continues to guide the community in its brave resistance, and which is one of the few ethnicities in the region without severe cases of the disease.
Nesta série, envolveremos os jovens da comunidade para a escuta, documentação e registro de experiências de resistência dos anciões frente ao genocídio vivido pela etnia durante o contato nos anos 70 que fez com que o povo chegasse a 52 indivíduos. Histórias essas, contadas de forma deturpada por antropólogos e academia. Essas histórias são carregadas de conhecimentos espirituais, emocionais e medicinais ainda presentes na memória dos anciãos que viveram o contato e com sua sabedoria tem guiado a comunidade, que mesmo diante da Covid-19, até o momento tem resistido bravamente, sendo uma das poucas etnias da região sem casos graves da doença.
