Cartography of memories - keila zache, Brazil
The Cartography of Memories project is a collaborative map of oral testimonials about the Covid-19 pandemic. The intention of the initiative is to preserve memory and to assemble a virtual archive accessible for all, and as a consequence to contribute to building solidarity and empathetic networks.
Testimonials of up to 5 minutes have been recorded through Whatsapp audio messages, and can now also be recorded directly at the map site. People have their identities protected as they are asked only to indicate their approximate location in order to allow their audio testimonial to be properly cataloged and then added to the map.
This initiative started in Brazil, in April 2020, through the Emergency Laboratory Covid-19. Cartography of Memories is being carried out by a group composed of historians, scientists, artists, communicators, developers and educators whose gathered efforts are to build solidarity alternatives in this global context.
